Three slots, used in order: the first grinds a new edge on a knife that has gone really dull, the second refines it and the third polishes it. The guides hold the blade at the right angle, so you only pull the knife through slowly.
A knife in normal use only needs the second and third slot every few weeks. Filings collect in a small tray underneath that slides out for emptying.
It is made for straight-edged steel knives: chef's knives, paring knives, carving knives. Serrated bread knives and ceramic blades should not go through it.

My kitchen knives were so blunt that tomatoes just squashed. Three or four pulls through each slot and they cut paper again. I only wish I had bought it years ago.

Easy to use even for me, I was scared to damage the knives but the slots guide everything. Good buy.

The instructions are clear, and the slots hold the knife at the right angle, so even I cannot do it wrong. The little tray for the metal dust is a good idea.

The dust tray is a small detail we like too. Thanks, Katalin!

I cook a lot and used to take my knives to a man at the market once a year. Now I do them at home every few weeks in a couple of minutes, and they stay sharp much longer.
